For intermediate painters. In this session we will explore blending and using mixed colors to enhance your work. The focus will be on making watercolor simple so that you will have fun and can relax in class. There will be lots of demos and plenty of time for hands-on experience. You will have plenty of guidance and support from not only the instructor but from the other students as well. Painting relaxes you while filling the soul with positive energy.

Dough Bowl Candle: Learn how to create beautiful, aromatic candles using dried flowers and natural ingredients. Under the guidance of Jenn from Candlewood, you'll design and craft your own unique candle in a charming dough bowl. The combination of delicate dried flowers and spring decor with fresh scents will result in a truly special piece that you can take home and enjoy.

Glass Jar Lanterns with Dried Flowers and spring decor using Decoupage: Discover the art of decoupage and transform a simple glass jar into a stunning lantern adorned with dried flowers. You'll learn various techniques to apply and seal the flowers onto the jar, creating a beautiful and functional piece of decor. These lanterns are perfect for adding a cozy, rustic touch to any space.

Ferment This! Sauerkraut (with decorations for gift giving)

You’ll learn a basic tried and true sauerkraut recipe, technique and troubleshooting. Then we'll add different flavor principles: Fennel, Fresh ginger, Cumin, Fiery peppers, It’s your choice!

Local delicious cabbage makes ferments that last for months, and maintains flavor and nutrient content. You'll learn about the marvelous microorganisms that surround us, give us “terroir” and keep us healthy by replenishing our microbiomes. This hybrid class will include both microbiology and ferment creation.

An Introduction to Birds and Birding

Led by an experienced birder and ecologist, this course will walk you through identifying birds found in Southern Maine. We will cover the different families of birds, habitats, life histories, binoculars, field guides, and more. In addition, we will discuss several natural history and conservation topics related to the world of birds.

This is a two-part evening program followed by a Saturday field trip; field trip will be held Saturday, May 3, 8-10 AM.  The field trip location will be announced.

In this class, you will learn how to assess your needs, evaluate your site, come up with a plan, and select the right plants.

Fly Tying with Maine Fly Guys

These courses on fly tying with educational input on entomology, fisheries, and stream ecology. Learning the skill of fly tying is fun and exciting, but understanding the theory behind why flies are made the way they are, when and where to use them, and why they work adds a new dynamic to the sport of fly fishing! Come join us for one, two, or all three classes to expand your fly fishing horizons!

Class 1 is required if you are a beginner. Class 2 and 3 builds on  basic skills, such as whip finishing or starting your thread.

We will tie two patterns per class:
Session 1 - Streamers - Woolly Bugger and Leech
Session 2 - Nymphs - Frenchie and Pat's Rubber Legs
Session 3 -  Dry Fly and Emerger - Emerging Caddis and Dry Caddis.
